Fou|cault pendulum
Fou|cault pendulum «foo KOH»,
a pendulum used by Foucault in 1851 to demonstrate the earth rotates on its axis. The plane of its swing slowly wheeled, a phenomenon explained only by the earth's rotation. The deviation is clockwise north of the equator, counterclockwise south of it, the rate varying with latitude.
